My coaching philosophy
Building a meaningful career is hard work – but it doesn’t have to be lonely work. I think many of us believe that applying for jobs, and trying to figure out one’s career, is ultimately an individual project: something you and you alone have to figure out. While this is partly true (it is your life, so it is your project), I’m convinced that asking others for advice is important. It’s part and parcel of understanding who you are, and who you want to become.
I believe that the most exciting opportunities in life come to us only partly because we work hard. It’s just as important to have the right people around us: People who see our potential and let us know they’re on our team. Who listen to and understand our needs. Who help us discover what we need and want in times when feel lost.
I started working as a career coach and career counsellor because I know what a difference it makes to be supported through the different stages of a job search. I’ve had the privilege of having supportive mentors in my life, but am aware that these kinds of people are rare and hard to find. If you’re looking for support, coaching, and help with finding direction in your career, you’ve come to the right place.
Born and raised in Norway, I have 8+ years of international experience with mentoring, training, and developing learning solutions at top universities in Hong Kong and Norway. I have my pedagogical training and a PhD from The University of Oslo, where I have also taught and worked as a researcher. Prior to this, I taught and helped develop curricula at The University of Hong Kong.
As a former researcher, I also have extensive experience with managing projects, organizing events, and public speaking. Across the last 5 years, I have been a guest lecturer or speaker at conferences in Hong Kong, Europe and North America. In 2016, I was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley and The University of Washington, Seattle.
In 2018, I started my own consultancy to offer solutions related to career development, employment, and talent management. I work with organizations and individuals in Hong Kong and beyond. I am the only career coach in Hong Kong who specializes in coaching academics wanting to transition out of academia and into other industries.
